Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors, and I really liked the way he interpreted Jack Sparrow's character. I thought the concept of basing movies on rides was a little backwards, but apparently, it has worked out well for Disney. From what you and others have said, the rides are an extraordinary experience, so Disney bets (correctly, usually) that a good number of people will subsequently turn out to see the films.
